Loosen your belt, untuck your shirt (or take it off), grab a napkin and saddle up. Get ready to feast on some of the most delectable and lip-smacking barbecue created in Williamsburg of Brooklyn, NY. Meghan Love and Jeff Lutonsky have delivered a labor of love in Mable’s Smokehouse. Jeff’s grandmother’s southern style recipes at Mable’s have set a new standard of Barbecue in New York City. They’re not bragging about making the best ‘cue, they are just doing it!

You may not get all the bells and whistles here but that’s fine with me! Mable’s Smokehouse is simple, comfortable and inviting. You’re surrounded by old memorabilia reminiscent of an old western saloon. Its nostalgic design takes you back to family night out for some good ol’ barbecue or hanging out with friends at the bar, waiting for that fine southern boy or girl to walk through the door, offer you a drink and sweep you off your feet. Yeah, this was a great place to be, and I was more than ready to get just what I had came for…great barbecue. These lips of mine were ready to explore their prey, and I was excited. So, let’s get to eatin!

My meal was The Sweet and Savory Corn Cakes with brisket, topped with a fried egg. The corn cakes were fluffy, fried golden brown and studded with corn kernels and jalapenos to add a nice kiss of spice. They were wrapped in deliciousness! I’m having a foodgasm already just thinking about it! But wait…this was just foreplay. That brisket tho! Mable’s has some of the Best Brisket I have ever tasted…I mean EVER! Absolutely awesome! It eluded moistness and tenderness. My fork glided through that smoked, marbled, blackened crust brisket like a knife through butta (Love should be this easy). The flavors danced on my tongue as the soft substance slid satisfyingly down my throat. The brisket sat on top of the corn cakes with an oval textured fried egg and was topped with a light drizzle of “Maple-Maker’s Mark” (bourbon and maple syrup mixture). All this deliciousness was accompanied by a side of creamy, stick to your ribs cheese grits that were the perfect touch of old fashion southern cookin’. I tried to figure out how I was going to devour everything on my plate. I had no plans on sharing with anyone so I knew there was going to be a first, second and third round kind of meal encounter. Oh,please know...I was getting it in. Can we say…Greedy? Yep! And my greedy self took bold possession!

My date had the Half Slab of St. Louis Ribs which grabbed my attention and did not let go. They were juicy, not too fatty and the sauce hugged those ribs just enough to keep all hands and fingers tangled in constant exploration of that carnal joy. Before we knew it, we were obsessed with tugging, scrapping bones clean and moaning as we closed our eyes and throw our heads back in pleasure. I am not sure if Ms. Mable would approve of my unladylike mindset about my encounter. But what can I say? My ‘cue experienced palate was pleased…it’s one of my hot-spots!

Until we eat again...make it a delicious bite!
